Sister Musick returns

Dear Family and Friends -
Some of you may be aware that Sister Katie Musick has been struggling with her health for the last few months while on her mission. She has done a good job of sheilding us from her problems. However, her doctors recommended that it was time for her to come home to recuperate. Both she and her mission president were not happy about the suggestion, but realized it was better in the long run for Katie. She will be returning on Thursday, the 20th at 12:12 at Meadows Field. If you would like to join us in welcoming her home, feel free. I think it would help her to know she has a family and friends here to support her recovery.

It is anticipated that she will speak the following Sunday in the Highland Manor Ward, which starts at 9:00am.
Thanks so much - The Musicks

Well, Mom to tell you the truth I was nervous to make the call home, too. I did not want to call home, but I remembered that Sam did not want to call home either. So I deceided I was ok to call home. It has not made me homesick at all. It was just good to hear yours and dad’s voices.

So today we went to the temple and I got to play B-ball, it was a lot of fun.
So tonight we are having a luau - we are dancing. I am not happy about that. But I am taking one for the team. We are going to have food and I will be talking and dancing. I will be happy when this is all over.

Mom and Dad, I love you for all that you do for me. I am grateful to have great parents that love me, and want me to be happy. I know what you are doing back home is so important - being a Bishop and his wife is a great calling to have. Yes, at times it is hard. “No one said it would be easy, only that it would be worth it.” I am grateful that we can be a family forever. Mom and Dad, I always put your names in the temple.

I LOVE YOU ALL VERY MUCH! It was great to talk to you all.
Love, Sister Musick

Marvelous May

Hey Mom and Dad
Well, we had an interview with Pres. Yardley - it went well. He did not tell me if I was staying or going, but he told my companions that we were staying together so we will see what will happen. I got to play the piano for the interview, too.
We went to seminary on Monday. That was fun. It took me back.

So the fireside that the mission put on went so great. There was a lady that came and she was crying during it. It is nice to see that we believe in the same things. But Sister Thomas told Sister Yardley that I should Sign and I did. I got to sign “I Know That My Redeemer Lives”. It was fun. People came up and asked if I was on a Sign Language mission. They loved it.

The Fireside was great - it was all about Christ. A family that we are seeing came to it. But the kids did not come. Let me tell you a little about this family: the mom and dad got a divorce and they are back together. They have a son and two daughters and one of the daughters has a learning problem. She is not baptized so we have been meeting with them. But the girl is so hard to talk to. She always looks to her mom for the answers and it kills me. She knows the answers. I told her about me and all. But one day I got to talk to her and it helped a lot. She is talking more to us, but it is still hard. There are a lot of things that are going on in that family right now. My companions think that is why I am here, for that girl. If you have anything that would help, please tell me.

Well, it looks like dad is busy. I am praying for you, Dad and I am praying for you, Mom. Mom, tell Bethany Happy Birthday! Sunday, I will call around 7:00 my time - it would be 6:00 your time. I will be looking forward to talk with you. I love you all!

Hey, Mom and Dad-
Well, I got the debit card, thank you so much. Now I am going to have to make the time to go shopping on P-day. If you send me any clothes I would wear them. But you do not need to. I do have a top for that plaid skirt.

I am not going to sign (ASL) at the fireside, so I am happy about that. I like doing it in Zone Conference - that was OK. I was scared, but it was good.

It sounded like you had a good time on the trek. I miss doing that. The family that we are living with are doing that this year, too.

Well, this week has been crazy, not because we are busy, but one of the sisters here went home, too. It is sad because Sister Thomas trained her. So we had to say bye. She said she is coming back, I just hope so. Mom, Keep praying for me. I was hard to see that sister go and to think that could be me.

So I have a question for you. Where does our name come from? Is dad a convert to the church? Give me some family history. That would be great.

I am happy to talk to you on Mother’s day, but you have to ask me questions, so get ready! Well, I love you all. I hope you all doing good. I will talk to you soon.

Love Sister Musick
Hurrah for Israel!

I will be sending some pictures home for you - I hope you like them and I will be sending the questionnaire too!

Zone Conference and A Happy Girl

Hey, Mom and Dad
It is getting warmer here so my clothes are too warm for me. Can you send me my red and brown skit, the plaid one? That will be nice. Can you send some money so I can buy cooler clothes? That would be really nice, too. I need to send home the winter clothes soon, too. I will wait for my card to get here for that. If you can send that stuff as soon as you can I would love you a lot. If you don't send me that stuff soon, I will still love you. So whatever you want to do. I just need cooler clothes.

Well, I need to tell you a great story. Here goes... So yesterday we had Zone Conference; it was nice. I had a hard time listening as I had a lot on my mind. They talked about Christ. (Side note: we are having a musical fireside about Christ and testimonies - on May 1st - it will be great.) So I got to sign a song in Sign Language. It was “I Know the My Savior Lives.” It was fun. So at the end of Zone Conference I just wanted to cry because I did not feel the spirit and I felt like I didn't learning anything. Sister Ah Sue knew that something was wrong so she asked if I wanted to talk and I said yes. So we went off into a room and we talked for a little bit and she said that I should go pray, so that is what I did.

(This is the good part) So I went off to a room and I got down on my knees, and at that time I could not talk out loud, it was so hard. But in my mind I was saying “I can do this - just say Heavenly Father, it will be OK.” It felt like someone was holding my mouth shut. I finally could speak and I said, “Father, help me, just help me.” So I finished with my prayer and I went to clean my face off. Then I went to talk to my companions and they asked if I needed to talk to Pres. Yardley and I said yes. But Pres. Yardley was in a meeting, so we waited. But Sister Ah Sue asked, “Do you want to go outside?” “Yes” so we went outside and we started walking and running around the church building. Then I came back in and played the piano. When I got to talk to Pres. Yardley, it was a good talk. I like him a lot. He said that I can go home on the 8th of March [2011]. He said that I can do that. Crazy! That was so cool and he said that when I get back, we will be playing basketball together and we will look back on the mission and talk about it and say “You did it”. Satan hates me right now - it is great!

So when I was writing about it in my journal last night. I look back and I felt like Joseph Smith did. That is so crazy! I feel so good now. It is like I am starting over again. I like it.

So mom I got your letter and the questions you sent me. I will be sending it to you, later today I hope! I love you Mom and Dad; thank you for your prayers and for putting my name in the Temple. The gospel is true! The Book of Mormon is the word of God. I know that my Savior died on the cross for me! I know he lives and He will come again!!

Love, Sister Musick
Hurrah for Israel!!

We also received these emails from Katie's cute companions ....

Sister Musick,
I just wanted to write you and tell you that your daughter is amazing!! I have thoroughly enjoyed serving with her and learning from her. She is such a strong individual and has persevered through a lot in the last 6 months. Yesterday was a great day for her as I'm sure she shared with you. Seeing her smile and have a renewed sense of strength is so heartwarming. The Savior has really been walking with her every step of the way and I know He touched her heart again yesterday at Zone Conference as everything was centered on Christ. I love your daughter and truly appreciate who she is and what she has taught me about not giving up. Thank you for sharing her with us! :0) Have a wonderful week!

Love, Sister Thomas

And

Sister Musick,
I just wanted to drop you a quick line and tell you how much I love your daughter. Thank you for sharing her with us! I have really loved serving with her and I have especially loved watching her improve and grow so much. I see her grow every day and am amazed with her testimony. She has really been smiling a lot more lately and I love seeing her joke around more and smile more. We had a great zone conference yesterday about the Savior and I think it really helped her. Thank you for everything and please let me know if there is anything else we can do for her. We really love your daughter and just think she is amazing! Hope all is well in Bakersfield! Take care.

All the Best, Sister Ah Sue

Aren't they great!!! Katie is so blessed.
