Moving on...

Katie has been busy working for her dad for the past several months and attending the singles ward, though still a ward missionary with her home ward. She attends Institute and hangs out with family as they have been in and out lately. But that will soon end as she has a new job in Utah at the Park City Mountain Ski Resort working in the kids center. She is excited at the possibilities, yet anxious about the reality of it all. We all think it is a great move for her and celebrate the opportunity with her. So if any one has a contact with a room/apartment for rent in the Park City area, please let us know. Housing is extremely tight and expensive up there.
Hurrah for Katie!

The latest -

Katie has been home a month today and I thought you might be interested in her progress toward civilian life. She still misses her mission and this morning as she got in the car to go to church she paused to make sure she had her name tag on and then remembered ... Dang those name tag memories, they are hard to forget! Anyway, she is busy looking for a job, has ordered a cell phone (told you it would take a little while) and is looking at cars. She is attending Institute and the Gospel Essentials class with the investigators and new converts. She really does love that! She is scheduled to volunteer at MARE, the equestrian therapy center, starting next month. So as you can see she is moving along. Still dreams of her mission ... don't we all?!

Update ...

Sister Musick, now Katie, is slowly adusting to "civilian life." She gave a great talk on the Book of Moromon on the Sunday after she returned. She has been called to be a Ward Missionary with another girl in the ward who is waiting for her mission call. She is learning to sleep in and has gone to a Young Adult activity as well as an Institute class - when a friend (a returned sister missionary) came by and "abducted" her! She is loving her nephews, getting to know little Parker who was born while she was gone. She has been a great help to her mom as she finishes library inventory at school. But she still likes to have a "companion" with her in large groups and is avoiding driving and is not interested in a phone...yet! Give her time :)

Homecomings are sweet!

Sister Musick returns

Dear Family and Friends -
Some of you may be aware that Sister Katie Musick has been struggling with her health for the last few months while on her mission. She has done a good job of sheilding us from her problems. However, her doctors recommended that it was time for her to come home to recuperate. Both she and her mission president were not happy about the suggestion, but realized it was better in the long run for Katie. She will be returning on Thursday, the 20th at 12:12 at Meadows Field. If you would like to join us in welcoming her home, feel free. I think it would help her to know she has a family and friends here to support her recovery.

It is anticipated that she will speak the following Sunday in the Highland Manor Ward, which starts at 9:00am.
Thanks so much - The Musicks

Well, Mom to tell you the truth I was nervous to make the call home, too. I did not want to call home, but I remembered that Sam did not want to call home either. So I deceided I was ok to call home. It has not made me homesick at all. It was just good to hear yours and dad’s voices.

So today we went to the temple and I got to play B-ball, it was a lot of fun.
So tonight we are having a luau - we are dancing. I am not happy about that. But I am taking one for the team. We are going to have food and I will be talking and dancing. I will be happy when this is all over.

Mom and Dad, I love you for all that you do for me. I am grateful to have great parents that love me, and want me to be happy. I know what you are doing back home is so important - being a Bishop and his wife is a great calling to have. Yes, at times it is hard. “No one said it would be easy, only that it would be worth it.” I am grateful that we can be a family forever. Mom and Dad, I always put your names in the temple.

I LOVE YOU ALL VERY MUCH! It was great to talk to you all.
Love, Sister Musick

Marvelous May

Hey Mom and Dad
Well, we had an interview with Pres. Yardley - it went well. He did not tell me if I was staying or going, but he told my companions that we were staying together so we will see what will happen. I got to play the piano for the interview, too.
We went to seminary on Monday. That was fun. It took me back.

So the fireside that the mission put on went so great. There was a lady that came and she was crying during it. It is nice to see that we believe in the same things. But Sister Thomas told Sister Yardley that I should Sign and I did. I got to sign “I Know That My Redeemer Lives”. It was fun. People came up and asked if I was on a Sign Language mission. They loved it.

The Fireside was great - it was all about Christ. A family that we are seeing came to it. But the kids did not come. Let me tell you a little about this family: the mom and dad got a divorce and they are back together. They have a son and two daughters and one of the daughters has a learning problem. She is not baptized so we have been meeting with them. But the girl is so hard to talk to. She always looks to her mom for the answers and it kills me. She knows the answers. I told her about me and all. But one day I got to talk to her and it helped a lot. She is talking more to us, but it is still hard. There are a lot of things that are going on in that family right now. My companions think that is why I am here, for that girl. If you have anything that would help, please tell me.

Well, it looks like dad is busy. I am praying for you, Dad and I am praying for you, Mom. Mom, tell Bethany Happy Birthday! Sunday, I will call around 7:00 my time - it would be 6:00 your time. I will be looking forward to talk with you. I love you all!

Hey, Mom and Dad-
Well, I got the debit card, thank you so much. Now I am going to have to make the time to go shopping on P-day. If you send me any clothes I would wear them. But you do not need to. I do have a top for that plaid skirt.

I am not going to sign (ASL) at the fireside, so I am happy about that. I like doing it in Zone Conference - that was OK. I was scared, but it was good.

It sounded like you had a good time on the trek. I miss doing that. The family that we are living with are doing that this year, too.

Well, this week has been crazy, not because we are busy, but one of the sisters here went home, too. It is sad because Sister Thomas trained her. So we had to say bye. She said she is coming back, I just hope so. Mom, Keep praying for me. I was hard to see that sister go and to think that could be me.

So I have a question for you. Where does our name come from? Is dad a convert to the church? Give me some family history. That would be great.

I am happy to talk to you on Mother’s day, but you have to ask me questions, so get ready! Well, I love you all. I hope you all doing good. I will talk to you soon.

Love Sister Musick
Hurrah for Israel!

I will be sending some pictures home for you - I hope you like them and I will be sending the questionnaire too!

Zone Conference and A Happy Girl

Hey, Mom and Dad
It is getting warmer here so my clothes are too warm for me. Can you send me my red and brown skit, the plaid one? That will be nice. Can you send some money so I can buy cooler clothes? That would be really nice, too. I need to send home the winter clothes soon, too. I will wait for my card to get here for that. If you can send that stuff as soon as you can I would love you a lot. If you don't send me that stuff soon, I will still love you. So whatever you want to do. I just need cooler clothes.

Well, I need to tell you a great story. Here goes... So yesterday we had Zone Conference; it was nice. I had a hard time listening as I had a lot on my mind. They talked about Christ. (Side note: we are having a musical fireside about Christ and testimonies - on May 1st - it will be great.) So I got to sign a song in Sign Language. It was “I Know the My Savior Lives.” It was fun. So at the end of Zone Conference I just wanted to cry because I did not feel the spirit and I felt like I didn't learning anything. Sister Ah Sue knew that something was wrong so she asked if I wanted to talk and I said yes. So we went off into a room and we talked for a little bit and she said that I should go pray, so that is what I did.

(This is the good part) So I went off to a room and I got down on my knees, and at that time I could not talk out loud, it was so hard. But in my mind I was saying “I can do this - just say Heavenly Father, it will be OK.” It felt like someone was holding my mouth shut. I finally could speak and I said, “Father, help me, just help me.” So I finished with my prayer and I went to clean my face off. Then I went to talk to my companions and they asked if I needed to talk to Pres. Yardley and I said yes. But Pres. Yardley was in a meeting, so we waited. But Sister Ah Sue asked, “Do you want to go outside?” “Yes” so we went outside and we started walking and running around the church building. Then I came back in and played the piano. When I got to talk to Pres. Yardley, it was a good talk. I like him a lot. He said that I can go home on the 8th of March [2011]. He said that I can do that. Crazy! That was so cool and he said that when I get back, we will be playing basketball together and we will look back on the mission and talk about it and say “You did it”. Satan hates me right now - it is great!

So when I was writing about it in my journal last night. I look back and I felt like Joseph Smith did. That is so crazy! I feel so good now. It is like I am starting over again. I like it.

So mom I got your letter and the questions you sent me. I will be sending it to you, later today I hope! I love you Mom and Dad; thank you for your prayers and for putting my name in the Temple. The gospel is true! The Book of Mormon is the word of God. I know that my Savior died on the cross for me! I know he lives and He will come again!!

Love, Sister Musick
Hurrah for Israel!!

We also received these emails from Katie's cute companions ....

Sister Musick,
I just wanted to write you and tell you that your daughter is amazing!! I have thoroughly enjoyed serving with her and learning from her. She is such a strong individual and has persevered through a lot in the last 6 months. Yesterday was a great day for her as I'm sure she shared with you. Seeing her smile and have a renewed sense of strength is so heartwarming. The Savior has really been walking with her every step of the way and I know He touched her heart again yesterday at Zone Conference as everything was centered on Christ. I love your daughter and truly appreciate who she is and what she has taught me about not giving up. Thank you for sharing her with us! :0) Have a wonderful week!

Love, Sister Thomas

And

Sister Musick,
I just wanted to drop you a quick line and tell you how much I love your daughter. Thank you for sharing her with us! I have really loved serving with her and I have especially loved watching her improve and grow so much. I see her grow every day and am amazed with her testimony. She has really been smiling a lot more lately and I love seeing her joke around more and smile more. We had a great zone conference yesterday about the Savior and I think it really helped her. Thank you for everything and please let me know if there is anything else we can do for her. We really love your daughter and just think she is amazing! Hope all is well in Bakersfield! Take care.

All the Best, Sister Ah Sue

Aren't they great!!! Katie is so blessed.

I also wanted to send the questionnaire back to you. I am feeling a little home sick today. The reason is because I am sick and just need my home, mom and dad. But I am so happy conference is coming up this Saturday and Sunday. Today has been a crazy p-day, no time to do things!

Dear Mom and Dad
I'm sick again. I have a cold and my throat is bothering me. I haven't received your Easter package yet, but I will get it when I go to the office. Thank you mom! I lost my credit card. Have they sent the new one to you yet? Sorry about that. I don't need the skirts. I'm not that skinny...ha ha... We've been tracting a lot out here [with not very positive results].

Well, thank you, mom and dad. I love getting Sam’s e-mail. Sorry this is not a great e-mail. I do not have a lot of time and the computer is acting stupid. I might be getting a new e-mail address so just look for it later.
Love you a lot,

Hey Mom and Dad

I got your letter today. It was nice to get a letter. I am glad you like the pictures I sent you. I will send more later. Well, it seems you are really busy with family stuff. I am glad that dad is back from his trip. That sounds like fun! I know he loves those trips.

So when I was in the MTC I talked to Kevin [Andersen] about Elder Hunt [Matthew Hunt’s best friend] and he was in my first District so that was cool. He is from Bakersfield. [He is in a few pictures below of the districts.]

Well, that is great Sam is so busy, that is what missionaries want - it makes the time go faster. I love my brother.

If you can send the simplified hymn book that would be nice but you do not have to. Just tell me.

So today we went mountain biking; it was so fun. I loved it and it was a great workout which I needed. We went with the Elders and had fun. One of my companions fell when we were going to get the bikes, so we were afraid for her to go on the mountain. I love being in the mountains. I think that helped me a lot today. Then we went in to Boise and had lunch with a lady that Sister Thomas taught and some Elders came too, so that was fun. We are having transfers soon, but I think I will stay here in Eagle - that is good.

I got your letter today. I do know some of the Elders [from your missionary mom list]. Elder Tobin came in my old area. Sister Graham stayed with me one night. Elder Dela Cruz - I had lunch with him today! That’s all the missionaries I know right now!

Well, I love you all so much. Thank you for your prayers. Take care!

Hey Mom and Dad,
Well today is P-Day and we get to go to the BSU football field today. I will take lots of pictures and send them to you!

Well, I wish that I had some great stories to tell you, but Eagle is just so slow. We did some service and I got to mow a lawn for a lady that is not a member of the church. She is the one who is taking us to the football field. We are also having lunch with her today. We got to clean a horse and I got to walk it around - it was so nice to do that.

We work with a lot of less active members in the church. We are working with a guy named Jason and he is so nice. He is like a brother to me. We have taught the first lesson to him, and we are teaching him the 2nd lesson later this week.

Sorry that this is not a good letter. I am not feeling so good. So sorry again. I want you to know that I know this church is true I am so grateful for this gospel in my life. I am so grateful that family can be together for ever. I am proud of my brothers and sisters; they are a great example to me. I am so grateful that I have great parents, too, that love me. I love you mom and dad. Thank you for all that you do for me!
Love, Sister Musick
Hurrah for Israel!

PS I might be getting a new email address. I will keep you up-to-date.
Love you. - Katie.

Hey Mom and Dad,
Well, things in Eagle are moving slowly. Eagle has a lot of people here with money and that is all that they seem to care about, so it is hard. I am grateful that I can see that! So I can get the fire under them!

Thank you, mom, for sending me the picture of Sam; it was so cool to see that my little brother is a great missionary! I loved seeing the pictures of Erik and Brock and Brody and Parker - they are so cute together.

Can you send me my hymn book (pink one) so I can start working on that, so I can play for District Meetings and Zone Conference, that would be great!

Well, we had Zone Conference; it was so great. I love Pres. Yardley, he is a great man that is called of God! I will miss him. But I know that the new mission president will be great, too.

Mom, I lost my credit card so I called them and they are sending me a new one. So when you get it, can you send it to me? That will be great. I need new clothes. Thank you!

Well, I talked about Kevin with you last time. So we went to Meridian on Wed. to meet with Kevin and he did not come. MAN I was so sad that he did not come. I hope he is ok!

We were teaching a lady in Meridian and we helped her stop smoking and now she is getting baptize next week, I think. She had to talk to Pres. Yardley. So I will be going to her Baptism. I am happy for her. She has made so many changes in her life. I hope that her parents will follow her into the waters of baptism soon. There is a lady named Maria and she has a son named Jr. They are Spanish speaking but they know English. We had a lesson with them. We taught the first lesson with them and she felt the spirit so strong there. It was so great. But we were praying and I got the feeling to ask the son Jr. if he wanted to listen and he said, "No, thank you." He was playing a game, but later in the lesson Jr. come up and listened to us. It was fun to see that happen. We were praying and fasting for the area as a companionship on Sunday, and so many great things came from that! We are getting new people to teach, so that is good to see God’s hand in all things.

Mom, I will be writing a letter today for you. I will be sending it with some pictures. I will burn a cd of pictures for you soon. We are so grateful for the gospel in our lives. I am so blessed to have great parents that love me. Tell Jared good job [on his acceptance to grad school at the University of Denver]- I am so happy for them and after the mission I will be coming to visit them!

Tell the family I love them and I miss them. I love you all! MOM AND DAD I LOVE YOU SO MUCH AND THANK YOU FOR ALL THAT YOU DO! I know that the church is true. I know that my Savior died on the cross for all of us. I know that the Book of Mormon is true, and it is the word of God. I know that families can be together forever and I am grateful for that! I know that we will be with our Heavenly Father again and that day will be so great! I am grateful for a loving family that helps me. Love you guys!

March Madness begins ...

Dear Mom and Dad,

Well, Eagle is very slow on the work. We fasted last Sunday and we saw so many miracles from that. We now have a family to teach. Then a lady came up to us in church and she has a friend she wants us to befriend. And on Monday a boy, who I was working with in Meridian, called me and he is back in town. He had been in AZ going to school. His name is Kevin and we are going in Meridian to see him. I hope to see him get baptized. There is something different about him. He is a good kid!

My companions are so great! Sister Thomas is from San Diego, Ca and Sister Kaafi is from Tonga. They are so great and we have a lot of fun! One night we pulled the car over and started dancing in the middle of the street. It was fun!

We are moving to a new house on Saturday so that will be interesting. They have 6 kids. Oh man!!!!! That will be hard to live with that many people! As a missionary we need space - so we can talk about things.

We did a service project with an older man. He is a member, but he drinks wine and has a mouth on him. (“He drinks wine for his heart.”) He did not help a lot, the Elders did the work. Why can’t people let us help when they ask? But it was good to wear jeans again!!!!!!! They had us over for dinner that night - it was a good meal. I just listened to him so I could try to figure him out! So that was good.

Well, things are going good. I am feeling a little better! Don’t worry. I love you all. Thank you for the stories! I love you, Dad and Mom

Dad, Happy Birthday! I hope you had a great one! Sorry it was late! I love you so much! Thank you again.

Hellooo Eagle, Idaho -

Hey, Mom and Dad -
I am doing great! Things are going good. Transfers were on Monday! I love my new companions. They are great! One is from Tonga and the other one is from San Diego Ca.

I got the package you sent - thank you so much! I will try to send some pictures.

So I am in a new area and I love it. I love my companions. I have met them before. They are great! I will learn a lot from them. There is one that is going home on Thursday. Her name is Sister Olive and she’s from Hawaii but going home to Oakland, California. I have already learned a lot from her in just one day.

Eagle is a pretty nice area and there are many big homes that look like hotels. When we got into the area we had a lesson with a lady named Jennifer Gee who is reactivating and is really nice. We taught her the plan of salvation which was really great; she was just so amazing. Then we had a farewell party for Sister Olive at a Polynesian family’s home, the Heinrichs. They just love missionaries and they took us in like we were family. I love Polynesian families - they are so cool. I want to be in one! :)

Answers to questions -
Mom, that is great hearing about all the new babies in the ward.
I am feeling tired, but I am feeling good!
So mom and dad, how are you doing?
Do you know I love you?
Do you know how much I am grateful for you?
I love you all! I miss you all!

Transfer time ...

Hi Mom and Dad,

Well, it is another time for transfers: I am going to Eagle, Idaho. I will have 2 companions, Sister Ka'afi and Sister Thomas. They will be great! I think I will learn to relax a little bite with a Tongan around me. I will miss Meridian and the people here, but I know I will see them after the mission and I know that they will be praying for me. I am very grateful for the people here. They have been great to me.

So, this week we are helping a lady stop smoking. That has been crazy! She calls us every day and we stop by all the time. She wants to be baptized so badly but she needs to kick some things out of her life. But all is going good for her; she has been 7 days without a smoke.

P-Day is going good, but the temple is closed - sad day. But I got to play B-ball and it was fun to play and let some steam off!

I hope you all doing good. I love you all. Please write me so I know what is going on! Love you!!!!!!!

We Love Idaho Moms!

When we came home from Hawaii there was a sweet letter from a sister in Meridian telling us that "Sister Musick is a wonderfully sweet and great daughter of our Savior! She's a hard worker... and you can tell she loves her mission." It was something we needed to hear and we appreciate that kind service she performed in writing us.

Today we received an email from another sweet sister with a Valentine picture! It read:

Hi from Idaho~
Just wanted to send you a picure I took of your daughters while they were at our home on Wednesday. All the Sister Missionaries were in town for a "Time Out For Sisters". I felt lucky that they found time to stop by and say HI!!!!

So, this is their Valentine to YOU!
We love these Sisters! They are amazing!
Thanks for sharing them with us!

All we can say is Meridian, Idaho ROCKS!

HOPE

Hi Mom and Dad!
Well, you guys are in Hawaii right now! Lucky you! I hope that you are having fun even if it is raining.

Well, I have a great story for you. We were meeting with a lady name Robin Knight. She is less active she lives in a log cabin-looking home (so you know I love it.) Well we were planning for the next day and her name came up. We wanted to do something great so we were looking all over, and we looked in PMG at the Christlike attributes in Chapter 6 (look at it). We prayed at different times and then came together and we decided to give a lesson on Hope. So we go to the lesson and it went great. At the end of the lesson she asked why we talked about hope and we told the story. Robin said "That is what I needed!” She told us that her mom found out that she has cancer now! It was a great spirit with us! I love Robin so much more now that she shared that with us!

Well, I love you us so much. I got my Valentine package today, Mom - thank you so much. Send me a picture of Hawaii in the mail when you have the time. I well be sending some pictures, too. Tell the family I said HI and I love them!

Love, Sister Musick

Hey Mom and Dad
So I am sending you some pictures. I hope you like them! I need a sims card Lexar Memory Stick PRODuo MagicGate, I would like to have a 4 Gig. That would be great!

How are you doing?
I am doing ok. I am trying to work hard!

Are you getting used to and appreciating Sister Brewer? (I talked to Danielle Griffith about her and she hadn't heard she was your companion and thought that was so cool.) She is crazy, but she's a good missionary. We are working hard together.

How is the work going for you this week? It is going good! We are working hard. We had Zone Conf. on Monday and is was so great to be with all those missionaries. We are focusing on finding people this transfer. I am so grateful to Pres. Yardley. He talked to me at Zone Conf. He is a good man.

Share a special experience so that you know God is blessing you and other's lives. So I have a family that I can talk to about all the things that are going in my life. It is the Webb family - they have a son out on his mission and another son at home and he is a great member missionary. I love this family. I am so blessed to have them in my life.

Well, I hope you have fun in Hawaii. Maybe, I will have some good stories for you. Bring me back one of those balls on the rope or a surf board :)
I love you. Talk to you soon.

Hi Mom and Dad,
It was nice to talk with you! I love you so much. Thank you for being there for me in my hard times!

Last night we went over to the Lamm's home and we were talking with Jordon and he is a good kid. He wants to go to church, he was getting down on himself, so they wanted us to talk with him. It was a good time over there.

Then we had FHE with the Webbs - they are great friends to me. Their son gave the lesson and it was so good. I love going to their home. The Rothwells emailed me and said they want us over for dinner. So that is good.

Thank you so much for all that you do for me. Thank you for fasting for me. I love you so much! Tell everone I say hi and I love them! Everyone - thank you for talking with me.

Thank you Jared and Bethany for talking with me - I love you!

A fun phone call ...

I got a phone call from a sister in our stake (Carol Parks) who was talking to her brother (Bro. Jack Jeppson) who lives in Meridian, Idaho. He was telling her that they had a sister missionary from Bakersfield who spoke in their ward last Sunday. He said she was a "wonderful, cracker-jack, enthusiastic missionary and gave a very spiritual talk." They were very impressed with her. Way to go, Sister Musick.

New Companion for the new year.

HI Mom and Dad
I am staying here! I got a new companion and her name is Sister Brewer. I like her a lot.
That is sad that Sam is sick not fun!
That is great that Jared and Cherie are moved. The house must be crazy now. I like it when it is like that.

So how are you feeling? I am feeling ok. Some days are better than others.
Are you taking your vitamins daily - that is important! NO but I will start now.

Can you send me Bethany’s' email address. Sister Lewis wants to ask her a question.

I have a story: We were in seminary to talk about missionary work. One day the seminary teacher, Bro. Smith, called us to come and talk to a boy who wanted to pray in church. So we went and gave the second lesson (the plan of salvation). It went great. We set up another appointment for the next day. But he didn't show up! It was very disappointing. But he called me yesterday, his flight had gotten canceled (he was going home to go back to school). So last night we met, you could feel the spirit so strong. It was great to see him. We got his mailing address and we're going to keep in touch. This boy, Kevin, wants to do what is right. I’m grateful to have met him.

Well, thank you for all that you have done for me.
Dad I love you so much and I miss you a lot. You are a great example to me. I pray for you all the time. Mom, thank you for caring about me. Thank for what you do for the family.
Families are forever!!

New Year Updates

Hey Mom and Dad
Just wanted to tell you we cannot tract during a BSU [Boise State University Football] game. But we heard about it. You’ve got to love BSU football around here.

That is great about Sam [and his new assignment as Mission Secretary], He will be great! We will be getting transfers calls on Wednesday. I will stay here, Sister Ah Sue will go! It will be fine.

So Mom, here are your QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS

-How is the work going? The work is going fine; it is a little hard with Christmas and the New Year. We are working with a less active person, I really like her. She has horses; we get along so well.

-Share a story about someone you are teaching. We are working with the Blowers, they have gone to church 5 times now. The husband will not get baptize, but the wife wants to. We go over there all the time. But they are great people and they are going though hard times now!

-The weather has been pretty cold - how are you doing with it? It is not that cold here. It is raining right now and a little foggy. It is all good.

-How's the new coat working out? It is nice. I love it. [A sweet member bought her a new winter coat - we did the best we could in Bakersfield, but it just wasn't warm enough when we were buying them in August!]

-How has the Lord blessed your life this past week? Well I understand how lucky I was to have a great district leader and zone leader during last transfers. This transfer my comp. did not get along with the Elders. So I was lucky to know the elders that I was working with before.

Thank you Mom for the QUESTIONS, I love it. I hope you have a great week ahead of you. Mom, good luck in school & keep smiling. Dad, I love you so much, good luck at work. Tell Bethany and Jordan and Cherie and Jared hi and I love them all.

Thank you for all that you do for me!
Love, Sister Musick
